Project TC3 – Bespoke glass product

Heraeus Quartz first approached Filter Designs back in 2017 to provide them with a Ceramic filter.  Heraeus needed to replicate the performance of an older EAF 6/2 filter originally designed some 20+ years earlier by FD’s founder and chairman, Roger Callis. We successfully completed that project in 2017 (for full details see Project HQUK).

In February 2020 Heraeus Conamic (formerly Heraeus Quartz) again invited us to quote for a repeat of that filter system to complete a planned further expansion of the specialist process.

With the impact of COVID-19 affecting industry worldwide, it came as pleasant surprise when we received an order just before Christmas 2020 to supply a repeat of the previous order with the only difference being additional inlet ducting requiring a minor change to the fan specification.

Once again all the same suppliers were used as the component specification of the original EAF filter was repeated. A minor late change to the location of the access ladder was accommodated with revisions to the 3D model, made quickly by our CAD team, and these changes successfully implemented to the already fabricated parts prior to despatch.

Having delivered the filter and components to the site for Heraeus to erect, as per the previous filter and ducting to the fan, once again we spent two days on-site to install the Ceramic elements and commission the filter.

We are always happy to tackle new projects for new clients, but receiving repeat business from previous clients is equally as pleasing as it confirms they were happy with the service received and the product provided the first time around.  Happily, we will be further continuing the relationship with Heraeus this year, further refining the ducting with an R&D project.

Our recent Projects

We were contracted to provide 2 small Ceramic filters suitable for a small volume but with a design maximum temperature of 600°C. In addition the filters will be handling a syngas which cannot be mixed with oxygen so an alternative to compressed air would need to be used for the ‘Cleanpulse’ cleaning of the 25 Ceramic element in each of these CPC78 filters. In addition dosing of small amounts of a re-agent is required so the client also opted for a ‘Cleandose’ 25kg bag skid. Find out more about Project CAD below.
